Limoux: carnaval, cathars, blanquette

Limoux, about 11 km to your holiday home in France, offers all the pleasures of small French towns in the South: coffee bars, shops, nice bistros and restaurants.

Photo, Limoux The city is well known for its textile industry and its carneval - which is celebrated every Sunday from January until Palm Sunday - as well as for the famous Blanquette de Limoux, kind of a champagne, which sparkled in Limoux (since 1531) long before Dom Pérignon rocked the first bottle. Many vinedressers invite you to taste that sparkling wine. Don't miss a visit of the Catharama. It is an interesting journey to the days of the cathars.

The small streets of the old city invite you to take a walk or just taste the Blanquette or the wines of the Corbières. At the cooperative of Sieur d'Arques you may taste this famous chardonnay of the winemakers of Limoux.

The Musée Petiet accommodates interesting archeological articles from the valley of the Aude. Limoux also offers the only piano museum in France.

Limoux is the ideal starting point for trips along the Route des Cathares in the Departement Aude, the land of the cathars.
