... this country is the people who live here, a sunburnt face, its skin almost chrome, or a mellow orange,their black beards of the deepest blue,... and the fascinating way the women move, with their black working jackets, their cloaks,... Then the pottery, red, green and
grey,... the donkeys, boats with their white sails, and little barks of many colours.
But above all the light: a white light, almost gold,that obliterates the shadows ... it's a terrifying task, ... everything I have painted so far seems inadequate.
